TOUR FORT BUFORD STATE HISTORIC SITE
Fort Buford was a military installation best known as the place where the Hunkpapa Sioux leader Sitting Bull turned over his rifle in 1881. It was built to protect land and river routes traveled by settlers moving west. Tour the original site to see a stone powder magazine and officers’ quarters which now house a museum.

Visit the cemetery! Each marker notes how its owner perished.
