Business 1: Books On Broadway

This local establishment was opened in 1993 by Robin and Chuck. It has a cozy atmosphere and a hot chocolate recipe you won’t find anywhere else (it is Chuck’s mother’s recipe) and really great coffee, too.

In addition to their main inventory, this store also carries all kinds of interesting odds and ends including guitar strings, puzzles, ND souvenirs and a wide variety of toys and curiosities. They take extra special care of customers’ special requests, and can bring in most orders at no extra cost.

The crew at this place is close:
“It’s fun,” one commented. “We become a little book nerd family and we try to make every experience a good one for our customers.”

We asked them what they miss or found they appreciate most during the recent changes in the world. Employees at this unique business replied that they appreciate their loyal customers’ support and continued visits during this time.

“We were able to remain open during this time because of them. We have missed the many conversations in the coffee bar.”

The owner of this spot likes dogs.

Need entertainment recommendations? Here’s what staff at this downtown favorite are reading or watching right now:

The owner is working on a number of books including Vikings of the Prairie, Still, Growth of Dirt, Where the Crawdad’s Sing by Delia Owens, and Educated by Tara Westover, among others.

Fred is reading Terry Brooks’ The Sword of Shannara, Natalie Diaz’s Post Colonia Love Poems, & Mohsin Hamid’s Discontent and its Civilizations.

Jamie is reading Ivan Doig’s This House of Sky, Celeste Ng’s Little Fires Everywhere, and Isabel Gillies A Year and Six Seconds.

Kyla has been watching a sci-fi series on Netflix called Haven written by Stephen King and reading Rati Mehrotra’s Markswoman.

Jim has been reading Will Marck’s Upload.

Business 2: Outlaws Bar & Grill

This business is known for their famous monster grilled cheese sandwich, cheesy pickles and their steaks. It was opened in 2006 by two families.

We asked them for three details most people may not know about them. They told us
1. make their ranch dressing from scratch – and it’s pretty great.
2. They own a barrel of Buffalo Trace Whiskey at the distillery and use it as their featured whisky.
3. They make custom Bloody Marys

This business has a head Chef who “has foodie degrees along with attending culinary school.” They love people and food! They feel it is important to be part of the community they feed, and enjoy creating new dishes monthly if not weekly.

When asked what they miss and appreciate most about their community, they replied they really miss seeing all their guests face to face and chatting with them in the bar and out on the patio.

Some additional facts to help you figure it out: the owner’s first vehicle was a Ford. Their favorite local event is Ribfest. And they are not a fan of spiders.
