Event and Convention Services Coordinator Named a 2021 "20 Under 40"

WILLISTON, N.D. – The City of Williston would like to congratulate Ashley Oyloe of the Williston Convention and Visitor’s Bureau (CVB) for being named one of the Williston Herald’s 20 Under 40 recipients for 2021!
Oyloe, the Williston CVB’s Event and Convention Services Coordinator, was recognized in an awards ceremony held at the Eleven Restaurant and Lounge the evening of Thursday, March 25.
Started in 2018, the Herald’s 20 Under 40 recognizes young professionals who have had an impact beyond their years on the Williston community and beyond.
“Ashley’s creativity, energy, and love for our community has been a great addition to the Williston CVB team,” said Amy Krueger, Williston CVB Executive Director. “She continuously presents new ideas that stretch our comfort zone and strives to make every event and project better than the last. We are proud of her accomplishments and congratulate her being named 20 Under 40!”
When asked about being named an honoree, Oyloe explained that she was both honored and humbled to have been selected out of so many worthy nominations.
“This award really highlights the people who make a difference in the community personally and professionally,” explained Oyloe. “It is one of my favorite awards given out because it is so much more than a random draw or tally marks added up to be named.”
Community members nominate individuals they think are deserving by writing up a rationale that is then reviewed by the 20 Under 40 nomination committee. Over 50 nominations were submitted for this year’s 20 Under 40.
A Williston native, Oyloe graduated from Williston State College in 2014 and from the University of North Dakota in 2016 with her bachelor’s degree. Before and during college, she worked for the charitable gaming side of the Williston CVB for nine years.
Oyloe transitioned to her current role with the Williston CVB in 2018.
“My job with the CVB allows me to branch out into so many different aspects of our community and learn from every person and experience I encounter,” said Oyloe. “I am able to serve my community more by being a part of groups, classes, and activities, and it has encouraged me to find my likes and turn them into passions.”
Outside of work, Oyloe is involved with various community groups including the Williston Community Builders and as President of the Williston Head Start Policy Council. A 2020 Leadership Williston Graduate, Oyloe created the Williston Yarnbombing Stitchers group and introduced the concept of “yarnbombing” to Williston.
For anyone looking to make a difference in the community, Oyloe emphasizes being available and open to doing the “dirty work” necessary to make things happen.
“Every single person who sets up picnic tables at 5:00 a.m. on a Saturday before a festival, runs a cornhole tournament, or waves traffic through a parade is significant and needed,” stated Oyloe. “It’s also important that we encourage the younger generation to volunteer and involve them in community ideas and projects. They are the future and we need to ensure they realize the importance of being involved in their community.”
