Band Day 2020 Coming Soon

Posted: Feb 20 2020
Williston, N.D. – The Williston Convention & Visitors Bureau (CVB) and the Band Day Committee is pleased to announce the date, guest bands and logistical changes for Band Day 2020. This community tradition is held annually in Williston, North Dakota on Mother’s Day weekend. This year, Band Day will take place on Saturday, May 9, 2020.

Band Day 2020 will feature a number of student and community bands and two professional guest bands including the NFL Kansas City Chiefs Rumble and Twin City Metro Pipe Band, of Minneapolis, MN.

Due to construction scheduled to take place on 18th St E, the lineup and parade route will be adjusted for this year. Lineup will take place at the Cutting Field parking lot and surrounding area. The parade will start on 18th St W and proceed east to 2nd Ave W, then turn south and proceed to 11th St W, then east to Main. It will end at the SE corner of Harmon Park. Participants will be instructed by a parade official on which direction to continue at the end of the parade in order to keep the event moving in a timely manner.

This year, the parade will start at noon. This will allow more travel time for student marching bands from surrounding areas to participate in Band Day. It makes time for a second student drum clinic in the morning, in addition to the afternoon clinic already offered. A slightly later start time also makes the instruments much easier to play.

Band Day predates World War II; the festival has evolved and grown over the years in step with the community. The earliest reference found to-date of Band Day in Williston was a 1927 print article, which gives Band Day a 93-year history in Williston. The event features a parade, concert performances in Harmon Park, food and craft vendor booths, stock car races, car show, the Band Day Mile run and more.

Community support for Band Day is always needed and appreciated. Donations, sponsorships and volunteers always welcome. Funds raised bring professional guest bands to the event, allows the committee to offer mileage to student bands from other communities who would like to participate in Band Day, pays for a complimentary lunch for band performers and pays for prizes and festival expenses.
